Blackworm Care

You have selcted one of the best tropical fish foods available.  You will find that your fish will be healthier and maintain their true colors.  Our blackworms are the perfect food for conditioning new tropical fish and breeding tropical fish.

Upon the arrival of your blackworms, rinse them thoroughly with 40-50°F water until their runoff water is clean and clear.  Untreated tap water works fine.  When placing them in a container, make sure that your worms are no thicker than 1/4 inch.  If they are thicker they may suffocate or try to escape from the container.  Keep no more than 1/2 inch of water above them.  A container the size of a shoebox works fine for one pound or less, and a sandwich size rubbermaid container is good for 1/4 pound.

Keep your blackworms in the refigerator.  They need to be kept between 40-55°F. Do not keep them in an aquarium, ouside in boxes, basements, etc., only in a refrigerator.  To keep your woirms fresh, they should be rinsed at least once a day.  Use only Cold water when rinsing.  Do not use aquarium water or room temperature water, only 40-50°F water.

We have found that the biggest issue with keeping blackworms alive for several weeks (or more) comes from a few things; lack of cold, lack of daily rinsing, and keeping them too thick, or in too much water.
